I want you to know it's possible to reach your goals in a loving and sustainable way. It takes a bit of trial and error and tuning into your body daily. Intentional eating looks like taking the time to check in with yourself and your body through the day.
Before you eat – Am I hungry? What do I want to eat? How do I want to feel? This will help you ensure that you’re eating out of hunger not emotion or boredom. It also ensures you honour your hunger and cravings by eating foods you enjoy, while being intentional about eating the foods that support your goals and help you to feel your best.
During meals - Try to eat mindfully and limit distractions. Taste your food and allow yourself to enjoy it. Check in with yourself during meals to notice your hunger levels.
Are you feeling satisfied? If so, maybe you want to save the rest of your meal for later.
Are you still hungry? Maybe you need a second helping or to add more protein or veggies to make your meal more filling.
After meals - Take note of how you feel immediately after, and a few hours after. By doing this you can start to notice how different foods and portion sizes make you feel. Do you feel light, satisfied, and full of energy? This is a good sign of eating for your goals and enjoyment. OR do you feel heavy, bloated and lethargic? This is a sign that you may want to adjust your next meal in a way that feels better in your body.
It’s an ongoing process to eat with intention, but the more you can check in with your body the more intuitive it will become to eat what makes you feel your best.
